Our Theory of Change

Our Theory of Change starts with a simple belief: when Black and Global Majority changemakers get the right support at the right stage, they build organisations that transform communities. Discover the five-level system behind DiNN's programmes, and the data proving it works.

Introduction

Across the UK, Black and Global Majority-led organisations face systemic barriers that limit their growth and impact. They have brilliant ideas, deep community connections, and lived experience of the issues they seek to solve. Yet they are consistently underfunded, overlooked, and excluded from the networks and opportunities that would enable them to scale.

The result is a sector where potential goes unrealised, and communities miss out on the solutions they deserve.

When Black and Global Majority changemakers have access to the right learning, networks, and support at the right stage of their journey, they build stronger organisations that transform their communities.

Our Three Core Outcomes

Through every programme we deliver is designed to drive progress across three interconnected outcomes:

  • Access to Learning: Members gain skills in entrepreneurship, finance, and growth.

  • Organisational Capacity: Members build the systems, confidence, and resilience to scale.

  • Networks and Visibility: Members connect with peers, mentors, and funders who open doors.

These outcomes work together; a member who learns new skills is better equipped to strengthen their organisation, which in turn makes them more visible to funders and partners.

DiNN’s Level System

Level 1: Starting Up Starting Out

  • Who we support: Idea stage, no formal structure yet.

  • Key outcome focus: Increased access to learning and business registration.

Level 2: Build Hustle Grow

  • Who we support: Early stage; first 1–2 years of operation.

  • Key outcome focus: Strengthened organisational capacity; financial management.

Level 3: Innovate Now

  • Who we support: Established, track record and some revenue.

  • Key outcome focus: Sustainable income streams; partnership development.

Level 4: Make it Big

  • Who we support: Growth; ready to scale impact.

  • Key outcome focus: Investment readiness; strategic growth.

Level 5: Big Business

  • Who we support: Mature; significant reach and experience.

  • Key outcome focus: Systems change; leadership influence.

This approach ensures that every member receives the right support at the right time, whether that is foundational training, one-to-one mentoring, or strategic growth funding.

How We Track and Deliver Impact

Each level is supported by programmes tailored to the specific needs of members at that stage:

Levels 1–2 (starting Up Starting Out, Build Hustle Grow):

Focus on foundational skills, business planning, market research, financial literacy, and building confidence. Programmes run over 4–6 months, combining cohort training with 1-2-1 support and culminating in a demo day.

Levels 3–5 (Innovate Now, Make it Big, Big Business):

Focus on scaling, strategic planning, leadership development, investment readiness, and market growth. Programmes run over 4–6 months with intensive cohort sessions, expert office hours, and tailored funding support.

Across all levels, participants gain continued access to the DiNN community through Inspired Network, Mindful Coworking, Virtual Vibes, and Alumni Dinners, ensuring support extends beyond the programme.

How We Measure What Matters

We do not just deliver programmes; we rigorously track whether they work. Our Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework translates our Theory of Change into measurable indicators, captured through pre- and post-programme surveys completed by every participant.

  • Confidence & skills: Pre/post surveys (scaled questions), show growth in members' belief in their own abilities.

  • Access to learning: Number of training sessions attended; tracks engagement with new knowledge.

  • Organisational capacity & systems: (governance, finance, HR, operations); Baseline and post‑capacity building health checks (scored 0–4), identify gaps, track institutional strengthening, and show progression across levels.

  • Networks & visibility: New connections, introductions, partnerships; demonstrates increased access to opportunity.

  • Organisational strength: Income growth, grant success, and sustainability – Captures real‑world progress.

What the Data Tells Us

When we look across all our programmes and levels, consistent patterns emerge:

  • Members gain confidence – Pre- and post-comparisons show measurable increases in entrepreneurial skills and self-belief.

  • Networks grow – Participants report new connections that lead to funding, partnerships, and collaborations.

  • Organisations strengthen – Grantees demonstrate increased income, improved systems, and greater sustainability.

These patterns are evidence that our Theory of Change works.

Why This Matters

For our members, this framework ensures that the support they receive is relevant, timely, and impactful. For our funders and partners, it provides transparency and accountability, showing that investment in DiNN delivers real, measurable change.

And for us at Do it Now Now, it keeps us focused on what matters most: empowering Black and Global Majority changemakers to build the future they deserve.
