Mission & Core Focus

University of Bristol Black PGR Network empowers and sustains Black postgraduate researchers by addressing systemic barriers and providing targeted, evidence-based support. Its mission is to create an interconnected ecosystem where Black PGRs are recognised, supported and influential across academia and professional networks. Led by three committee leads, including Milicent Nani and Christopher Malik, the network operates within University of Bristol structures, with weekly committee meetings, quarterly reviews, stakeholder input and guidance from Bristol Doctoral College.

Initiative Key Achievement

The strongest achievement over the past 12 months has been the publication of the Breaking Systemic Barriers, Building Belonging report for Black postgraduate researchers, alongside a university-wide symposium to share its findings and drive institutional engagement. This moved the network from peer support into evidence-based advocacy, giving Black PGR experiences greater visibility within university conversations.
