Mission & Core Focus
Serenity Gdns Black PhD Writing Group addresses the academic isolation and emotional demands faced by Black doctoral researchers through a model of peer accountability, collective care, and writing support. Over the past six months, the initiative has provided both formal and individual guidance to 39 researchers across the UK, emphasizing the protection of research rooted in Black culture and lived experience.
Initiative Key Achievement
By fostering a supportive online community, this group has significantly increased retention and academic success among Black doctoral researchers who previously faced high attrition. This consistent space of solidarity has not only enabled tangible milestones like PhD completion but also cultivated increased confidence and a renewed sense of pride in their research.
