Mission & Core Focus

Society of Caribbean Academics is an emerging network created to increase visibility, connection, collaboration and research development among Caribbean academics and researchers globally. Its mission is to build a globally connected community that supports Caribbean researchers across all career stages, from postgraduate researchers and early career academics to established scholars. Currently incubated at the University of Greenwich, the Initiative benefits from university infrastructure, senior academic advice, stakeholder networks and a steering group while it works towards a more independent structure.

Initiative Key Achievement

The primary achievement has been the rapid establishment of a globally connected network of Caribbean academics and the creation of a credible platform for research collaboration. Its inaugural meeting in October 2025 brought together more than 370 participants from the UK, Caribbean, North America and Europe, demonstrating both the scale of unmet need and demand for a dedicated space supporting Caribbean researchers. Since then, engagement has grown to around 460 people. Building on this momentum, SOCA is co-organising the MIG/SOCA Caribbean Research Conference at the University of Greenwich on 12 May 2026, with strong engagement through registrations and abstract submissions
