Brixton House is a creative and civic space in the heart of Brixton, in the London borough of Lambeth. We use storytelling, civic engagement and the power of culture as a tool for social change, social justice and social mobility - creating space for our communities; Black British and Caribbean, Latinx and LGBTQ+ artists, audiences and participants to be recognised and valued. As a civic space, we do not simply present work - we respond directly to local need, building confidence, connection, and pathways into creativity. Our driving purpose is to create a space for shared cultural and creative experiences that have impact. Large or small. Inside or outside our building. Led by us, supported by us or championed by us.
What’s the most exciting part of being a DiNN One To Watch for you or your organisation?
One of the most exciting things of being a DINN One to Watch is the recognition of Brixton House's deep, impactful work! Having DINN support us through profiling and spotlighting the work we do to re-frame narratives, center historically marginalised voices and shift the dial on who gets to be seen, heard and represented, is incredible. Being a part of a network and community of like minding organisations who are building community power, shifting systems, and delivering real-world impact across communities, is a fantastic opportunity for Brixton House.
