Mission & Core Focus
BioSci Toolkit CIC’s mission is to unlock diverse STEM talent and remove barriers for students from Black, mixed, and ethnic minority backgrounds, particularly within biosciences. The organisation is structured as a CIC limited by guarantee, led by a founder-CEO and supported by three directors and a team of 16 volunteers. Its methodology is user-centred and evidence-based, drawing on STEM education literature, lived experience, and feedback from students, parents, teachers, and careers advisers. Programmes are designed to address both structural and personal barriers to progression, with a focus on mentoring, skills-building, and community support.
Initiative Key Achievement
The organisation has supported 150 Black researchers in the past six months through mentoring, career development, and skills-building initiatives. Major accomplishments include the successful delivery of the BioSci Future Leaders Mentorship Scheme, partnerships with Gilead Sciences and Brunel University, and collaborations with Target Malaria and the Wenite STEM Academy. The organisation has received funding from Wellcome and the Royal Society of Chemistry, and has expanded its team from 6 to 16 members.
