Voltage Revolution Creator Fund.

This programme supports young Black creators (aged 18-24) to access the funding, training, tools and resources necessary to take their creative business to the next level. It takes more than skills to succeed, so we’re providing a grant between £100 - £250 to 60 individuals with a passion for art, short stories, poetry, photography, music, short films and much more.

We are committed to empowering the creativity of Black young people by partnering with you to elevate your skills through entrepreneurship. We provide a supportive community where young, creative Black individuals can connect with like-minded peers and network within a community that shares common goals and experiences. We connect young creatives with experienced professionals in their respective fields who can provide valuable insights, guidance, and a supportive relationship that will accelerate your personal and professional growth.

About the programme

Do it Now Now is collaborating with Comic Relief to allow 60 young Black creatives to experience a holistic training programme, complete with funding to support your entrepreneurial endeavours. We’re working with influencers, content creators, creatives, and finance and entrepreneurship experts to create a bespoke programme of support for a group of high-potential, young Black creatives that we expect to take the creative sector by storm in the next few years.

Voltage Revolution’s ‘Creator Fund’ will provide 60 London or Glasgow-based young Black creatives with grant funding between £100 to £250 and bespoke support valued at over £2500 per person. We will help each of you build financial resilience and operational readiness, increase your chances of building a successful creative business and create a sustainable future for yourself.

Who should apply?

This programme is right for you if you are a young Black person (aged 18-24) who is interested in using your creative skills to build generational wealth for you and your family. Whether it is music, art, filmmaking, poetry or anything in between, we are determined to champion the creative genius of young Black people in London and Glasgow. We believe genius is waiting to be discovered in young Black people and we want to be part of your journey and support you along the way.

We have deliberately made the application process as straightforward as we can to make sure we reduce the barriers that you might experience trying to access support in this area. However, if you need any help at all applying or you feel you need more information about this programme, please feel free to contact the Programme Manager who will be on hand to help you succeed throughout your Creator Fund journey.

How it works

  • In the application form we’ll learn about you, your background as a creative, your future aspirations and how you believe the Creators Fund will support your future. Whether you want to go for one, two or all three aspects of the Fund programme.

  • We make the application form as easy as possible because we want to get to know you properly, in conversation.

    Once we confirm your place, you’ll receive a welcome pack, and an invitation to our secret online community space where you can start connecting with the other participants on the programme.

    If your application is not successful we’ll do the work to connect you into other opportunities that may interest you.

  • Those that complete this programme will receive a £100 grant towards their creative journey.

    It all starts with our virtual Creator Weekend where you’ll get to connect with influencers, creative power players and more. The event will run from Friday 5 April 2024 (5.30pm to 7:30pm) to Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 April 2024 (10:00am to 6:00pm).

    From the Creator Weekend you will gain experience working with clients, develop your creative business skills and connect with industry professionals. In groups and with support from our fantastic line up of speakers and mentors you will work on unique concepts to solve a creative challenge. This weekend is designed to build your confidence, enhance your creative opportunities and boost your network.

    Workshop one

    How to Start a Project - from Idea to Launch

    Facilitator - Tumi Balogun - Tag Agency

    This workshop will help you build the foundations of a successful project, develop your knowledge to map out a business model canvas and assess the opportunities, challenges, timelines and goals that bringing a successful project to life entails.

    Workshop two

    Skills and Tools for Creators

    Facilitator - Lydia Renee Darling - Oh! (My Gosh) Creative

    For this workshop we take a deep dive to explore the development of useful skills and tools that you can use as a creative to enhance your work and bring your project to life. We will be focusing on the basics of presentation creation and pitching to help you build the expertise to create and deliver a pitch with ease.

    Making money moves

    Facilitator - Fi Titus - Coco Financial

    This workshop revolves around money confidence and building your financial knowledge. We will be exploring the mindset and process to generate income from one’s creative projects, how to leverage multiple streams of income and creating a concise plan to work toward the development of your financial expectations and goals.

    How to Win Clients

    Facilitator - Alvin Owusu - Tag Agency

    Clients and community are key to building a successful endeavour, in this workshop we will be sharing inside knowledge on how to market your brand, product or idea. We will cover the main aspects to consider when drawing in new clients, developing a strong customer base and delivering a successful pitch to showcase who you are and the work you do.

    Following the Creator Weekend, you will engage in two virtual masterclasses to elevate your creative journey.

    The expert-led workshops are designed to help you leverage your branding, freelancing and creator potential. Taking place over two evenings you will have the chance to learn the tips, insights and industry knowledge to propel your future in the creative sector. You can choose the workshops that will most benefit you and your goals, depending on if you are career or business focused. You are also welcome to join both and gather as much insight as you can.

    How to Make the Most of Freelancing: Key Tips for Success

    Speaker: Kodj Glover - This Way Up and Generation Works

    During this session we will be exploring the skills and tools for freelancing success. How to stand out as a freelancer and deliver seamless client projects, how to market oneself as a freelancer and how to step into the creative industry through expert CV writing tips and interview skills.

    Masterclass two

    How to Showcase your Brand

    Speaker: Nathaniel Wade - Wakuda

    How do you stand out from the crowd, leave a lasting impression and showcase your brand in a way that draws interest? This workshop is designed to walk you through the steps of how you can best highlight your products on e-commerce platforms, in retail stores, pop-up markets and overall have your brand name and image centre stage to draw customers to your work.

  • This is the place to showcase your brand, talents and creative expression! Our Pop-up Market will be an ending celebration to the Creators Fund programme providing you with the opportunity to connect with your fellow programme members, build your visibility and get your work seen. This event is open to the public so you can invite your friends and loved ones along if desired. Envision high energy, good vibes, spoken word, dance performances, artist exhibitions and unique products to thrill your creative heart!

  • Within the existing application form we ask you to submit your original creative work (created within the past 5 years). The £250 cash grant will be given to 5 people who delivered an incredible piece of work with intention and meaning.

    The judges for this will be will be members of the Do it Now Now team, Rebecca Maserow and Bianca Bruce who both have extensive experience as creatives from podcasting to web and graphic design and much more.

  • To claim the grant, we’ll need you to complete a little bit of admin so that we can fully understand the impact of the programme on your creator journey. Our goal is to ensure all our work delivers on its vision to empower our community so this offboarding process is designed to help us improve our services and programmes in the future as well.

Making Wellness a Priority: Self Care in Practice

Facilitators: Monette Allison and Nadine Robinson

19 March 2024, 7pm, online via Zoom

Our wellness is vital for thriving in our businesses, careers and towards our goals in life. Yet, for many of us it can often come in second place. In this workshop we have crafted dedicated time for you to connect, reflect and learn how to make your wellness a priority for 2024. We will guide you through the process of implementing self care into practice, helping you to take leadership of your wellbeing, creating a foundation for everything else to positively improve from. 

What will you gain? 

  • Space to share, reflect and have the time to plan your wellbeing goals 

  • A new mindset towards your wellbeing and making it a priority
