John is the Director of Finance and Operations at Do it Now Now. He is a versatile and driven finance director operating at C-level, with expertise primarily in small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) and growing businesses sector. He personally enjoy growing successful businesses and getting under the skin of commercial nuances and complex challenges to drive real performance gains.
John joined DINN in 2021, driven by the ethos of the organisation but also keen to contribute from his knowledge of the finance and operational area which has been honed over 25 years in the accounting and operational arena.
Known for shaping and building finance operations, creating rigour and providing commercial leadership to medium and large multi-million businesses, John is comfortable both in the board-room with funders, and merger and acquisition activity as well having a 'sleeves-up' approach to supporting the team and getting the job done.
John brings a diverse experience of operating models, business turnarounds and troubleshooting numerous businesses in an interim capacity so he can say with confidence that he knows what 'good' does and doesn’t look like. To that end he now brings this experience to a permanent role where he can make an impact over a five to seven-year cycle.
John began his career at Deloittes in Edinburgh where he was trained and qualified as an accountant. He had a broad training in both the SME sector, coupled with involvement in internal and external audit, corporate finance and management consultancy. Following this qualifying, he became the Finance Director of an advertising and design agency based in London.
For the next 13 years, he made a move into hospitality, growing a business with the other directors and at the peak, owned 20 sites across hotels, bars and restaurants.
Following such a long stint in one sector, John ventured into high-tech, manufacturing, energy, private equity sectors
John lives in Cheshire with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys walking his dogs in the surrounding countryside, as well as visiting different parts of the UK. He has a passion for reading and also running and is training to compete in his first half marathon in 2022.
